Climate Change

We must plan for the next thousand years not the next two four or six years.

Immediate steps should include

  • End fossil fuel use
  • Add resilience to our energy infrastructure
  • Decentralized electricity production
  • Create micro-grids with decentralized electricity storage
  • Develop hydrogen infrastructure
  • Prioritize and incentivize clean energy projects
  • Eliminate other greenhouse gasses
  • End climate change denial
  • End short sighted cut-rate government

When our atmosphere first formed it consisted of mostly carbon dioxide, with 3% nitrogen. It took life 3½ billion years to get the carbon sequestered as it was at the start of the industrial revolution. The bulk of Earth’s coal deposits used as fossil fuel today were formed from plant debris during the late Carboniferous and early Permian periods.  Getting the COout of the atmosphere is not something man can easily do, so we must immediately stop putting it there.

Coal must stay in the ground and petroleum has to be conserved to be used as source material for petrochemicals needed by us now and by future generations. All of our planet’s petroleum will be used up in the next 50 years if we don’t conserve it.

People are the most adaptable species on the planet. Humans can adapt to increased temperatures. The problem is that our food supply relies on a stable climate.

Climate change won’t kill us famine will. Ocean rise will decimate our coasts. Future generations will curse us.

We need to put the kind of effort of the Manhattan project into relocating species to where they may exist. We will never recover from the mass extinctions that we are currently causing. We desperately need to minimize our damage to earth.

Ecosystem Collapse is getting closer all the time. We need to error on the safe side. We must save earth, the only livable planet there is. The loss of species is much more dire than most recognize. The time has come to turn our military spending into infrastructure or our ecosystem will collapse and man will suffer. Earth is the only place for us. We should turn this planet into a garden fit for a billion years, not a barren wasteland.
